I found this Jacob’s Ladder toy at the V&A Museum of Childhood on our way to the site from Bethnal Greens station. I was quite intrigued at seeing the object, and wasn’t quite sure what one was supposed to do with it.. But the clever arrangement of ribbons connecting wooden slats, such that they could reverse and re-position to change form, was an interesting study.

I started playing around with the toy and tried to assign possible meanings and functions to various forms created by modulating the 6 wooden slats in different ways:
