A failed alginate moulding experiment ruined my spiral models for the time piece. Using alginate for the first time, I observed that it lacks the strength and dry-set qualities of silicon putty, which I have used previously. Moreover, the clay objects might not have dried fully before I tried to cast them. I’d like to explore alginate further to work out a better proportion for future casting projects, since it is much cheaper than silicon. However, due to limited time in this project, I’m going to try the time-piece with silicon moulding compound instead.
