With the hand being the main point of contact, and the element defining ergonomic success, I tried looking at possible options for the handles for the hothouse handbag. My initial choice was a blue spiral invoking Chihuly’s blown glass, resonating the temperate house at Kew Gardens. The spirals of varying lengths and tightness were invariably uncomfortable to hold. the clay cast of the fist grip in blue resin seems like a comfortable option, but the tactile quality imparted may be irritating to feel (the mould captured fingerprints, making the resin model matte, as opposed to smooth and glossy). I feel smooth and glossy objects are more pleasant to hold.. Isabel suggested leather, I’m not sure how that fits within my narrative. I quite like the block of wood I found and sanded to a reasonably smooth finish. It seems to be the right size for the hand..
