Pushing boundaries with materials – making new materials from existing ones- pushing old materials to do new things – recycling waste – composites – chemically created materials
- Weaving – creating looms from everyday items- nails on frame/ laser cut paper, repeating notches for warp; weft: paper, cloth, any flexible material
- Nikolas Feldemeyer – 3D plastic weave architectural scale
- Bottles – lamp 3d object
- Bethany williams – cardboard woven jackets
- Frozen weave- resin fibres
Felting: traditional – stretch and lay fibres cross cross – netting – hold fibres – pour water and scrub rigorously with soap on top of net. (Bubble wrap on underside helps with binding fibres through textured surface)
Embellisher- binding fibres from fabric itself- can be applied to felting for texture
Bending wood- birch ply- pva glue- sandwich layers – bent and let dry- Richard Deakin – multiple tests- could break- proper equipment for bending and clamping – wood pieces could be bent as well – might break
Living hinges ** downloadable patterns – angular (wood) – curve – plastic? Trial and error with materials- to dense burns plastic- laser cut – depth needs to be worked out- to create a dofferent living hinge- fluid surface from hard sheet material- plastic/acrylic – shapes- diamonds/squares/stripes- spirals from stripes
Paper making- memories through shredder- soak in bowl woth hot water- leave for fibres to break down- soft, gibrous lumps- blender- smooth- thin, even paper- toss into tray with water- thin solution- dip decal (and frame optional) collect mulch and shake to spread out- turn over knto felt couching blanket- peel off decal- stack on blankets- let dry – options- emboss shapes (acrylic pear – smooth surface imparted) by pressing objects between couching blanket and adding weight- thick, solid chunks of paper /mache- take long to dry- can be carved by cnc router- composite- laser cut- etch- cnc- compose to nee material

Waste stream- finished waste- 4-6 weeks- compost- circular usage- food ingredients-
growing own material- Krown design – shitake lamp
Malai- coconut water leather
Carole collet- biolace 2012- basil- hack plants to grow lace

Bioplastics recipes- could be tweaked for specific properties
Alternate materials- samples – seek out, test, question, decide which to use, question cycle and source of material
